Hello Knitter!

This pattern is part of Fremstrikk 2023. Fremstrikk is a magazine from Rauma Garn made with the intention of promoting those who work with, engage in, and create using Norwegian wool. In Fremstrikk 2023 we have teamed up with six talented and inspiring designers. Each of them have created a pattern using one of our softest yarn qualities made from Norwegian wool, Fivel. While designing for Fremstrikk Stine Erikstad envisioned an oversized sweater with a colorwork pattern. She started on a swatch and thought, ‘Shit, I got it!’, but it would take a long time before she picked the swatch up again. That’s often a sign that something isn’t quite right. She made several swatches, left them out where she could see them, feel them and contemplated how she could create an exciting pattern that still felt manageable for a novice knitter. “It’s hard to explain exactly what didn’t work as I wanted, I just felt that it wasn’t right.” She tried several times. And then it clicked. She made a simple pattern with columns in two colors while holding two strands of yarn together, Fivel and Alpaca Silk.

GLORIA SWEATER

ABOUT
The Gloria Sweater is knit from the bottom up with one strand Fivel held together with one strand Alpaca Silk. You knit ribbing before you start the colorwork pattern that repeats throughout the whole sweater: a chart- pattern followed by 10 rounds in main color. When you are done knitting the body in the round, you separate for front and back that are knit separately back and forth while decreasing for sleeve opening for a better fit. The front piece is split in two to shape the neck line and shoulders. The back is knit the same length as the front before you knit the shoulders together while you cast off, or you may stitch the shoulder seams together. You can find videos describing both techniques on YouTube. You pick up stitches for the sleeves and collar and knit them as described in pattern.

GAUGE
15 stitches / 20 rows = 10 x 10 cm
Remember to knit a gauge swatch before you start your project. If you get more sts per 10 cm, try a larger needle. If you get less stitches per 10 cm, change for a smaller needle. Parts of the sweater are measured by rows/rounds, and not cm. If your gauge is off, both length and width will be affected.

NEEDLE SUGGESTIONS
4 mm (circular needle 80 cm + 40 cm/double pointed needles/magic loop for ribbing)
5.5 mm (circular needle 80 cm + 40
